Leading Employee Practices for Sustainability:
Information Tools for Managing Engagement

Presenters:
Andrew Rhodes, Project Engineer, Arup
Jackie Pitera, Senior Analyst, AltaTerra Research
Briana Whitlock, Corporate Responsibility Officer, Centrica PLC

Overview

Meeting organizational goals for sustainability is difficult when employees don’t understand their role in the equation. Whether it’s energy efficiency targets within an office building, or community engagement by a business unit – employees need to know what’s expected, and how their day-to-day actions are helping to make a difference.

This independent briefing, the second in a three-part series, will address new information technology tools that help to inform and engage employees and manage engagement programs around resource efficiency and enterprise sustainability/corporate responsibility. As an overview, we will discuss highlights from our upcoming research report, "Software Solutions for Engaging Employees in Sustainability: Emerging Technology Brief”, that covers pure play employee education and engagement tools from providers AngelPoints, CloudApps, GreenNuture, and Tripos Software. Then, we will hear from two companies that have implemented new programs and information technologies focused on specific objectives for building energy efficiency and community engagement, respectively.

  • Andrew Rhodes, Project Engineer at Arup, a global engineering services firm, will describe their employee sustainability engagement program and their use of a leading-edge building energy dashboard tool from Lucid Design Group, implementation challenges, lessons learned, and results to date.
  • Briana Whitlock, Corporate Responsibility Officer at Centrica plc. will describe their community investment program in context of their larger employee sustainability engagement program, how they manage their program on a day-to-day basis, why they are using a software tool to aid in operational program management, challenges and lessons learned.
  • Jackie Pitera, Senior Analyst at AltaTerra Research will discuss highlights from the Emerging Technology Brief on Software Solutions for Engaging Employees in Sustainability including background on corporate engagement strategy.
